Development
The development of the city of Zoetermeer started over thousand years ago. In the middle ages it was a small village of farmers and fishermen. Since the sixties to the nineties the village developed in to a city of 100.000 people and is still growing very quickly.

Sports city
The City of Zoetermeer has the aim of working to be a sports city. Facilities for gymnastics, indoor skiing and skating are well equipped.

Zoetermeer is constantly improving. The new district Oosterheem is growing into a large and diverse "living and working area" located next to the natural environment. New developments within sport, recreation and leisure are going to be applied here. Furthermore, a lot of attention is being paid to social care facilities and district development policy.

Although Zoetermeer has a fine theatre and cinema's visitors of Zoetermeer can also enjoy a full range of entertainment in The Hague.
There are a lot of theatres. The latest films can be viewed in ond of the town's cinema's.
The Gemeente Museum , is one of the many galleries in the city. To get an impression of important buildings and construction in the Netherlands a visit to the miniature city of Madurodam is strongly recommended.
